Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their car or start the motor and even locate it using a smartphone application.
Place the fob's front up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button to let it go. Place a coin in between the fob cover and the fob, and slowly pull it up.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs let you unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate, and flaps for filling with fuel with the push of one button. The remote key fobs can also switch on the ignition and set off the alarm. They can even operate the sunroof when it's equipped. With these options, you'll never have to fumble for your keys or have to lock yourself out of your car.
You might not know about certain key fob features that aren't visible. You can use the manual lock/unlock feature if the battery in your key fob fails.
To press the manual lock/unlock switch hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing up. Locate the black button that is on the outside of the body of your key fob, and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. The cover can be turned clockwise using a flathead, or coin.
Beginning the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs offer an ease of use and functionality that is not available with traditional manual keys. However, like any battery-operated electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge, or cease working after a certain period of time. If you notice that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it may be time to replace its battery.
You can enable this feature using the key fob if the vehicle has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then heat or cool to the exact temperature it was set to when parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.
Take off the back cover of the key fob by using your fingernail. Under the cover, on a diagonal near the body's edge there is a button. Take it off by sliding it downwards and then to the right. The cover will come out and slide off, revealing the manual key blade within! If you can't find the button, check the newly revealed manual key access to find an undiscovered lever or slot.
Close the Windows
One of the hidden features on Volvo key fobs is that they allow you to roll down all of the windows immediately using the fobs. This is a fantastic feature to have when trying to squeeze into a tight parking spot, or even just to get fresh air inside the cabin while driving.

Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all the windows, as well as the sunroof if it comes with one. Once you're done driving you can shut the doors by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to activate your car's panic alarm. This will sound an alarm that is loud and attention-grabbing which can deter thieves and help you get home in peace after a night out. This feature can be very useful for those who live in a dangerous neighborhood or wish to safeguard your family while they're away.
The opening of the Tailgate
Volvo has loaded its key fob with number of useful features. They are great when you're juggling shopping or helping your kids load up their sports gear after practice.
For instance, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped) you can open it by using the key fob. Simply press the button to open it, then press the same button to close it when you're done.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are more practical than a mechanical car key. They aren't always working perfectly and batteries can be dead. If you're in a hurry or don't want to go to an establishment to have your key fob reprogrammed you can attempt to make it work at home.
Find a clean surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and any other keys. Locate the small black button on the bottom left corner on the key fob and slide it to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off, revealing the mechanical key blade underneath it.
The button to unlock the key fob twice quickly, and you should be able opening all doors and the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 minutes, you are able to close the sunroof and windows when they're equipped. Reconnect the battery and the alarm should stop. If it doesn't work, the owner's manual should have a way to reset the alarm.
